Social change may occur through logic and argument, and towards the betterment of the common good, including animals. But not that often.
While the moral arguments must be made, very often positive change for animals is patchy because it is filtered and resisted by existing interests, especially individuals and corporations that wield enormous financial and political power.
Though the movement towards animal justice is broad, it is only recently that we have begun to seek power through politics. We also need the power that finance brings, to underpin other initiatives. The animal justice movement is large and growing, but it does not have a centralised bank account that rivals even one of the richest individuals who may oppose us. The AJF aims to fix that.
The AJF exists to build power through finance, and over the very long term. By combining the donations and bequests of animal-lovers across the nation and investing it long-term, we will accumulate a significant fund with investment returns that can be used to future-proof the animal protection movement. If you want your donation to fund immediate initiatives to support animals there are rescue groups, shelters, activist organisations and political parties who will do exactly that.
One hundred per cent of every dollar donated to the AJF goes into the accumulation fund from which returns are generated over time. A small proportion of our accumulated funds and investment returns will be distributed to political activity, advocacy and broader activism each year. Administrative costs for the AJF are minimal as it is a volunteer-run organisation.
